Singapore is an all time favourite of mine, I have been there several times and it is always great. There is so much to see and do. It is especially good for families with young kids as it is known for being safe and clean! From Australia the flight is not too daunting at under 10 hours travelling time.
In Singapore it is very hard to find accommodation for larger families, as generally hotel rooms will only accept one child. A great option to consider is residences. They are basically apartment style hotels, great for families. Sometimes there are restrictions on how long you are staying in a residence as they often require you to stay a week at a minimum, but other times they will allow you to stay a shorter period of time. We have stayed in a few different places each time we go depending on our needs at the time and the length we are staying. Our preferred accommodation is called Somerset Liang Court which is near Clarke Quay (which now has a minimum of 2 nights stay). The apartment style was a great option, as adults and kids had their own rooms, plus there was also a kitchen and lounge area. It is walking distance to public transport and China town.
A Pool is must in Singapore, this hotels pool is on the roof and is shared with the Novotel Clarke Quay. The hotel is on top of a supermarket and shopping centre so great for supplies. Clarke Quay was next door which is an evening restaurant and entertainment precinct. We found food lovely but a little expensive here, especially as there are so many other great food options in Singapore. Close by and another fantastic option that has been tried and tested by my friends is the Fraser Place Robertson Walk apartments. Again a minimum stay of over 2 nights is required, there are 2 & 3 bedroom options for families and large groups.
No family would visit Singapore without going to Sentosa Island. This is a hub of so many attractions and even more hotel options. Families wanting to be closer to the action can stay here. Hard Rock Hotel, Resorts World has rooms that offer family accommodation. Within Sentosa island there is Universal Studios, Adventure park water park, a great Aquarium, a flow rider, butterfly park, luge, ifly, & Segway, just to name a few. There are heaps of restaurants, shops and other activities too, like Madame Tussards museum. To get to Sentosa island you can catch the monorail, which links to the train system or go across on the cable car which is another great adventure.
A must see attraction is the Gardens by the Bay, those super trees just leave you in awe. Amazing man made trees that are huge! Go at dusk to see the gardens in the daylight and a colourful light show within the trees in the evening.
The kids will love Singapore Zoo, they offer various safaris, if you would prefer to do the zoo in a different way. You can also get there early and have breakfast with the Orangutans. General admission is also good as their displays and shows are very interesting. The Jurong bird park is also on the list, you get to see lots of birds you would not normally see like flamingos, & macaws. You also get to feed the birds, which of course the kids loved. Both the zoo and the bird park have fantastic water play zones so be sure to take your bathers! We carried a light sarong which could also be used as a towel once finished.
Taxi’s are very cheap and an easy way to get around, however the train system is also very good and will get you easily from a to b. There are interesting districts in Singapore that focus on particular cultures. We enjoyed China town for food and shopping. I also enjoyed a Chinese massage (quite possibility torture, but it got rid of my knot at least!)
After a busy week in Singapore with a seemingly endless list of activities and shopping we needed some rest & relaxation.
Just a short Ferry ride from Singapore we had to try Club Med Bintan Island. This all inclusive resort is great for a family beach break. They have kids club and run a full activities schedule like on a cruise. You’ll get a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner, and nightly shows, there is something here for everyone. Drinks are also included in the pricing of this all inclusive hotel club. After your beach break Club Med staff will transfer you all the way back to Singapore Airport for your flight home.
Singapore Airport is a destination in itself, if you arrive early you could check into the aerotel? Lounge by the pool, have a drink and a snack and wait for your flights time. What a great end to a wonderful holiday.
